2021 NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 2

NEW ORLEANS – Here is the second edition of the NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index for the 2021 season, as released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). 22 of the top-25 teams in the National TFRI have moved from a week ago.

Doane (Neb.) improved eight spots from a week ago to sit atop the National TFRI. The Tigers posted nine top-10 nationally ranked performances at the Doane-Nebraska Wesleyan Dual Meet. Leading the way was Jacob Hruska in the high jump with his national leading clearance of 2.11m (6-11) and Richard Dover in the discus (No. 2, 50.15m/164-7). The Tigers’ strength is in the jumps, with three athletes ranked in the top-10 in the high jump (No. 1, No. 5, No. 9) and long jump (No. 4, No. 6, No. 7), while having two ranked in the triple jump (No. 3, No. 8).
Southeastern (Fla.) comes in at No. 2. The Fire gained a new No. 1 performance from Kyle Manuel in the discus with his heave of 50.33m (165-2), which pairs well with his No. 3 mark in the shot put (17.73m/58-2). Zachary Nichols improved his season best effort in the hammer throw (No. 5, 56.60m/185-9), while Darion Carter moved up to No. 8 in the 400H (54.53).
Milligan (Tenn.) is the third-ranked team in Week 2 and were idle. The Buffalos have 10 top-10 nationally ranked performances this season, including two national leading efforts from Nathan Baker in the 1500 (3:53.79) and the 10,000 (30:39.95).
Improving one spot to No. 4 is Westmont (Calif.). The Warriors earned two top-5 performances this past weekend at the APU Invitational and Distance Carnival, including a national leader: Senzo Sokhela in the 800 (No. 1, 1:49.52); Adam King in the 1500 (No. 5, 3:58.69). The Warriors have five efforts that sit among the top-10 on the Descending Order List.
Wayland Baptist (Texas) climbed 13 spots to No. 5 to round out this week’s top teams. Of the Pioneers’ eight nationally ranked efforts turned in this weekend, six of them rank among the top-10. The 400 crew had a stellar weekend with three season best efforts at the David Noble Relays: Demetrius Turner (No. 3, 47.56), Reggie Mouton (No. 7, 47.94) and Che Lara (No. 8, 48.08). Those three were also part of the top-ranked 4×400 (3:10.44c/3:10.00A) that competed at West Texas A&M’s Joe Meaker Classic and Multi.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 2: No. 6 Concordia (Neb.), No. 7 Indiana Tech, No. 8 Montreat (N.C.), No. 9 Madonna (Mich.) and No. 10 Central Methodist (Mo.).
