LSU took back the No. 1 spot for the second time this season. The Tigers, who leapfrogged former No. 1 BYU, added or improved three national top-10 marks this past weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational, including the No. 2 mark in the long jump by Rayvon Grey (8.12m/26-7¼) and the No. 4 mark in the high jump by two-time national champion JuVaughn Harrison (2.33m/7-3¾).
The second-ranked Cougars added one national top-10 mark to their ledger thanks to Dallin Vorkink’s effort in the decathlon. Vorkink put up 7501 points for the eighth-best total this season.
Alabama jumped five spots in Week 3 to sit behind No. 3 Florida and No. 4 Southern California, which remained unchanged from Week 2. The Crimson Tide saw a major breakthrough by Eliud Kipsang, who became the seventh-fastest performer in collegiate history in the 1500 meters with his 3:36.00 solo effort this past weekend (You read that correctly: Kipsang ran alone for most of that race and won by 10 seconds). Robert Dunning improved his hold on the No. 2 spot in the 110H to 13.42, which pairs well with his No. 2 billing in the 400H at 49.70.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 3: No. 6 Oregon, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 Iowa State and No. 10 Kentucky.
Four of the biggest movers in the National TFRI slotted in at No. 11 (Tennessee jumped 15 spots from No. 26), No. 13 (Arizona jumped 11 spots from No. 24), No. 14 (North Carolina A&T jumped 13 spots from No. 27) and No. 15 (Georgia jumped 34 spots from No. 49).
The 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from June 9-12 at the newly redesigned Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
