2021 NJCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 6

The 2021 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships start on Friday at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. By the end of the day on Saturday, they’ll crown numerous individual champions as well as the all-important team champion.

If the most recent installment of the Women’s National Rating Index is any indication of what you can expect, Cloud County CC is favored to win the team title, but it could be a three-horse race with South Plains College and Iowa Western CC right there as well.
Cloud County CC has a wealth of top-10 marks this season – 24 of them, to be exact – across a number of event areas. Multiple T-Bird athletes reside in the top-10 nationally of the 60, 200, 400, 600, 1000, 3000 and weight throw. Not only that, but Cloud County CC has Mercy Ntia-Obong, one of the fastest sprinters in NJCAA history ready to hold down the fort in the 60 and 200. The T-Birds also have the top-ranked 4×400 and 4×800 relay squads, as well as the fourth-ranked DMR team this season.
South Plains (Texas) holds 22 national top-10 marks across a number of event areas from the sprints to hurdles to relays to field events. The second-ranked Lady Texans only have one NJCAA leader in Onaara Obamuwagun (triple jump), but see four other entries ranked among the top-2 in their respective events – Rosemary Chukwuma (60), Mackenzie Griffin (pole vault), Joniar Thomas (pentathlon) as well as the 4×800 relay.
Iowa Western CC earned five NJCAA-leading marks in the regular season that will bode well this weekend in Kansas: Nickisha Pryce is No. 1 in both the 200 and 400: Faith Linga headlines the 5000; Aliyah McNeil tops the high jump; and the Reivers’ DMR squad is above the rest. Linga is also ranked second in the mile, while Dyandra Gray holds down the No. 2 60H rank.
Iowa Central CC is always a threat to win and this year is no different. The fourth-ranked Tritons own 18 national top-10 marks, including NJCAA leaders in Rosalie Fish (1000), Chloe Lenoir (mile), Hannah Connell (60H) and Victoria Adu (weight throw). Look for big points from Iowa Central CC in the 200, 1000 and mile this weekend.
Barton County CC rounds out the podium contenders at No. 5. The Cougars have 13 national top-10 marks, including an NJCAA-leading mark from Ana Da Silva in the shot put. Don’t be surprised if Barton County CC has multiple scorers in the high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and weight throw. If that happens, watch out for the Cougars.
