2021 NCAA DII Men's Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 6

NEW ORLEANS – Conference Championship Weekend has shaken up the newest edition of the NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index, as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday afternoon. 20 teams have a new placement within the National TFRI from this past weekend’s results.
No. 1 Grand Valley State, No. 2 Ashland, No. 3 Colorado School of Mines, No. 4 West Texas A&M and No. 5 Central Missouri continue to hold a place among the top-5. The Orediggers and the Buffs traded places like they have for the last two weeks based on results from the weekend while both teams remained idle.

Grand Valley State remained atop the National TFRI for the third straight week following the program’s fourth consecutive GLIAC title. The Lakers have 17 top-10 nationally ranked marks to date and notched two improvements at the GLIAC Championships: Makiyah Smallwood in the 60H (No. 6, 7.98) and Caleb Futter in the mile (No. 9, 4:04.45). The Lakers continue to boast the top-ranked DMR of 9:39.38 that set an NCAA Division II all-conditions best.
The second-ranked Eagles had an impressive showing at the GLIAC Championships with seven season best efforts that rank within the top-10 on the Descending Order List. Trevor Bassitt soared for the Eagles with an improvement on his national leading marks in the 200 (20.40) and 60H (7.67), moved to No. 2 in the 60 (6.72), and was part of the fastest 4×400 of the season (3:08.23). Also earning season bests are Brent Fairbanks in the weight throw (No. 3, 21.16m/69-5¼), Travis Moore in the heptathlon (No. 6, 5327) and Channing Phillips in the 400 (No. 6, 47.65).
Central Missouri remained steady with seven event performances that rank among the top-10 in NCAA Division II, including two season best efforts at the MIAA Championships. In the triple jump, Christopher Goodwin soared 15.17m (49-9¼) to improve his No. 7 ranking in the triple jump. The Mules also earned a boost from Garrett Francis after posting a score of 5233 in the heptathlon to move to No. 8 on the Descending Order List.

The 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for March 11-13 at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
