USTFCCCA NCAA DI Program of the Year Standings – Mid-Year Update

NEW ORLEANS – After a week like never before that saw two national championships in the span of three days, it’s time to look at the standings for the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men’s & Women’s Program of the Year.
With those two championships in the books – indoor track & field and cross country (yes, in that order) – those teams that performed well across the board find themselves at the top of the standings for the John McDonnell Program of the Year Award and the Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award.

The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution’s finish at the NCAA Championships.
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team’s finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.

Men’s Story

Arkansas leads the race for the John McDonnell Program of the Year Award after finishing fourth in cross country and tied for seventh at the indoor meet just two days before that. The Razorbacks, who have 11.5 points in the standings, last won the award following the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year and finished top-3 in six of the past seven years that the award has been bestowed.
Iowa State, Ole Miss and BYU are bunched up in second, third and fourth place, respectively. The Cyclones, who finished eighth in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and 13th in Fayetteville, Arkansas, own a one-point lead over the Rebels at 21-22 and sit 2.5 points ahead of the fourth-place Cougars, who have 23.5 points.
Notre Dame comes in at No. 5 thanks to a runner-up effort in cross country.

Women’s Story

It’s a close battle for the Terry Crawford Program of the Year Award.
BYU and Arkansas, victorious in cross country and indoor track & field, respectively, sit No. 1 and No. 2 in the standings, separated by just three points. The Cougars also finished seventh at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, which gave them the advantage over the Razorbacks, who also finished 10th at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
It should be noted that BYU has never finished in the top-3 of the standings, while Arkansas has been in that upper echelon six of the past seven years that the award has been bestowed.
Alabama, fresh off an eighth-place finish in cross country and a 16th-place tie at the indoor meet, leads the chase pack with 25 points. NC State, thanks to its runner-up effort in cross country, holds down fourth place with 28 points, while Colorado sits fifth in this update with 28.5 points.
