NCAA XC National Athletes of the Week (March 31)

NEW ORLEANS – Here are our National Athletes of the Week in NCAA Division III Cross Country for March 31!

  • NCAA Division III Men – Lucas Caminiti, Edgewood
  • NCAA Division III Women – LaNea Bartel, Concordia (Wis.)

Find out more about each of these athletes by scrolling below.
National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to 12 collegiate cross country athletes, when applicable (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions and the NJCAA).
Nominations are open to the public. Coaches and sports information directors are encouraged to nominate their student-athletes; as are student-athletes, their families and friends, and fans of their programs. Nominated athletes are noticed before those athletes found through searching TFRRS.
The award seeks to highlight not only the very best times, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or the latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and other factors will also play a role in the decision.

NCAA DIVISION III MEN – Lucas Caminiti, Edgewood

Senior | Black Earth, Wisconsin
Lucas Caminiti ran away from the competition on his way to winning the individual title at the NACC Cross Country Championships this past weekend.
Caminiti led from the gun as he covered the 8K tract at Kress Creek Farms Park in 27:00.4, 44.2 seconds faster than the next closest finisher. It was the second dominant win in as many tries for Caminiti, who also won by more than 30 seconds at the Warrior 5K Road Race.
This is the first time in program history that an athlete from Edgewood has been named National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season.

NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN – LaNea Bartel, Concordia (Wis.)

Junior | Kewaunee, Wisconsin
LaNea Bartel asserted herself at the NACC Cross Country Championships this past weekend.
Competing on the 6K tract at the Kress Creek Farms Park, Bartel traversed the distance in 24:46.0 to capture the individual title by 8.5 seconds. This was the second victory in a row for Bartel, who also won by a sizable margin at the Warrior 5K Road Race a few weeks ago.
This is the first time in program history that an athlete from Concordia (Wis.) has been named National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season.
