2021 NJCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 1

NEW ORLEANS – The 2021 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field season is off to a roaring start!
Here is the first edition of the NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index, as released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Iowa Central CC headlines the National TFRI for the third consecutive year. The Tritons, who are back-to-back national champions, own 27 national top-10 marks so far. Danshinelle Dyer and David Bosquez Grimaldo lead Iowa Central CC as both hold down national-leading marks: Dyer in both the 60 (6.79) and the 60H (8.06); Grimaldo in the high jump at 2.00m (6-6¾). The Tritons also have the top-ranked 4×800 relay team at 7:52.88c (7:59.64).
Indian Hills CC has its best ranking in program history at No. 2. The Warriors also have 27 national top-10 marks with four of those topping the chart: Aurel Tchanbi in the 200 (21.77), Jackson Burnett in both the 800 (1:52.73) and mile (4:13.96), as well as the 4×400 relay. Indian Hills actually has four different athletes ranked in the top-10 of the 200, 400 and 800.
Iowa Western CC comes in at No. 3 for its best billing since the 2016 season when it went as high as No. 2 in Week 2. The Reivers are led by Maurice Thompson in the 60 (No. 1, 6.79), Wimachmorr Gilo in the 5000 (No. 1, 16:02.80) and the top-ranked DMR team at 10:45.33.
Cloud County CC has the fourth-ranked team to begin the season. Look for the Thunderbirds to make a lot of noise in the field events this year as they currently have multiple athletes ranked among the top-10 in the high jump, pole vault and heptathlon. Courtney Lawrence is Cloud County CC’s lone No. 1-ranked athlete in an event – but it’s a big mark, coming in at 18.48m (60-7¾) in the shot put.
Barton County CC proves the adage that it’s not about the quantity, but the quality. The fifth-ranked Cougars only have 10 top-10 national marks this season so far, yet four of them top their respective charts: Ja’Kwan Hale in the 400 (46.92), Tyrese Reid in the 600 (1:19.67) and 1000 (2:37.62) as well as Fabio Hessling in the weight throw (18.48m/60-7¾).
